Hartwig Kamelger (a master carpenter from Niederdorf (South Tyrol, Italy) and a passionate hobby ski racer) had the idea for a new anchoring system for slalom poles during a hike in the Dolomites. On the same day, the first prototype was created, and patent research began.
The idea for the name “OrangeFox” come from the clever fox, known for its impressive “mouse jump” in the winter. The fox jumps skillfully and elegantly, headfirst, vertically into the snow – symbolizing a perfect anchoring of poles in the snow.
Hartwig Kamelger found a partner in Klaus Mutschlechner ( a passionate skier and managing director of Intercable) to bring his idea to life. The collaboration began after a successful first meeting.
A dedicated team worked intensively on the development and testing of the snow anchor. Regular meetings, even on weekends, led to rapid progress.
We needed a drill with a large diameter for our anchoring system – but traditional 44mm drills were simply too expensive and far too heavy to transport on the slopes. So we said: Enough! Out of necessity came a brilliant idea: our own drill made from in-house plastic production, just as powerful but significantly lighter and easier to handle.
The new products “OrangeFox – innovation anchors & drill systems” hit the market and were successfully presented at ISPO MUNICH 2014. Hartwig Kamelger and Klaus Mutschlechner were personally present at the booth, supported by Sascha Sorio (trainer and co-developer) and Renate Kamelger (wife of Hartwig Kamelger).
Over the years, we have continuously improved our drill, especially for use on ice. We have developed various models and shapes and also offer custom versions.
Once again, we were frustrated with heavy, cumbersome and potentially dangerous tools – especially with traditional metal keys. Just like with the drill, we decided to take matters into our own hands and develop our own plastic key: the OrangeFox Key! Lighter, safer and more user-friendly.
Our OrangeFox Cart was developed to make life easier for trainers. It simplifies the transport of poles not only from the car to the lift but especially on the slope. The requirements for a collapsible cart that can be easily pushed on all surfaces led to a major development process.
Since 2015, we have regularly exhibited at ISPO in Munich and presented our new products. The 2020 visit took place in collaboration with SPM.
The idea was born from an important safety aspect. Pole bundles are usually secured with rubber bands (often with metal hooks), which can cause dangerous situations. That’s why we developed a plastic hook suitable for different pole diameters and temperatures. Combined with our strap, OrangeFix offers ease of use, high safety and robustness - for maximum protection and efficiency on the slopes.
